About the studio
Fourteen years of building things that were designed to be built.
TongDSK Studio was founded on a simple frustration: too many good designs never survive contact with a construction site. We keep architecture, structural engineering and construction management under one roof so that doesn't happen to yours.
We started in 2012 as a two-person architecture practice working out of a shophouse in Kemang, taking on small residential renovations because that's what walked through the door. What we noticed early was that the projects that went smoothly weren't the ones with the most ambitious designs — they were the ones where the structural engineer and the contractor were in the room from week one, not brought in after the drawings were finished.
That observation became the studio's structure. Today, TongDSK runs architectural design, structural engineering and construction management as one coordinated practice rather than three separate handoffs. The same team that draws your floor plan also checks whether your contractor's quote for the foundation actually matches the soil report.
We work across Indonesia, from single-family houses on narrow urban lots to community pavilions, adaptive reuse of old industrial buildings, and mid-scale commercial fit-outs. The scale changes; the process doesn't. Every project starts with a site visit and an honest budget conversation, not a rendering.
We're a team of twenty-eight — architects, structural engineers, interior designers and site supervisors — organized into small project teams so that the person who designed your building is still the person answering your calls once construction starts.
How we work
One team, not three handoffs
Design, structure and construction management sit under the same roof, so decisions made in one discipline are checked against the others before they reach the site.
The budget is a design input
We ask about your number before we ask about your Pinterest board, and we design toward it from the first sketch, not after the fact.
We survey before we design
Structural and utility surveys happen before design starts on renovation work, so the budget is built on what's actually there.
Honest trade-offs, explained plainly
When the site or the structure limits a design idea, we explain why in plain terms — not in a way that makes the constraint disappear on paper only to reappear as a change order.
